The hood louvers and chrome trunk spears from the previous year were removed and a pure black interior color, the Corvette's first, was available. Interior refinements included redesigned door panels, more legible instruments, and the addition of a package shelf under the passenger-side grab bar. Sales increased to 9,670. A 24-gallon fuel tank was optional for racing, but it is not currently known how many were factory-installed. The RPO 684 Heavy Duty Brake/Suspension option was installed on 142 cars. For the first time, the metallic brake component of RPO 684 was available separately as RPO 686 and 333 sets left the factory on 1959 models. Snowcrest White was 1959's top selling exterior color with a quantity of 3,354. Interestingly, Classic Cream was the rarest exterior at just 223. And the rarest two-tones were the 89 Classic Cream/white cove combination. Jim Jeffords and his Corvette won the SCCA Class B-production points championship. The top twenty B-production positions were all claimed by Corvettes.
