Two-tone paint was no longer available for 1962. This was the last Corvette with a conventional trunk until the 1998 convertible, and the last with a solid rear axle which marked the end of the Corvette's first generation. Until the debut of the 2005 sixth-generation models, the 1962 was the last to have exposed headlights and an optional power convertible top. Engine displacement increased to 327-cid. Powerglide transmissions had aluminum cases for weight savings. Sales jumped sharply to 14,531. Corvettes won the SCCA points championships for A-production (Dick Thompson) and B-production (Don Yenko).
