Last of the 1963-67 "mid year"" series and the Corvette's second generation, the 1967 is now an enthusiast favorite. But it was somewhat ignored at the time because buyers anticipated the new body style coming the following year. The 1967 aluminum "bolt on"" road wheel option was unique to the year. The side fender louver treatment was unique, as was the hood for s with optional 427-cid engines. Horsepower ratings ranged from the base engine's 300-hp to 435-hp for the RPO L71 engine. Output of the limited production RPO L88, of which only 20 were sold in 1967, exceeded 500-hp but was intentionally understated to restrict its appeal to non-racing customers. A competition-prepared L88 set the A-class Grand Touring land speed record at 192.879-mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Emergency brake handles for 1967 moved to between the seats from under the instrument panel, and this was the first Corvette with standard four-way flashers, dual master cylinders, turn signals with lane-change feature, and folding seatback latches. Sales declined to 22,940.
