A strike interrupted 1969 production. When it was settled, John DeLorean, Chevrolet's general manager, allowed Corvette production to continue into December 1969, an extension of about four months. This played havoc with GM production record keeping. Accurate totals for exterior and interior color quantities are, at this time, not available. But total production and individual option quantity detail is known. The overall total production for the 1969 model year was 38,762, a level not reached again until 1976. The rarest option was RPO ZL1, essentially an aluminum-block L88 engine package. Two were built. The 1969 looked similar to 1968, but it did have optional side exhausts, the ignition switch was moved to the steering column, map pockets were added to the instrument panel, and the steering wheel diameter changed from sixteen inches to fifteen. Wheel width increased from seven to eight inches. The Stingray (one word) name reappeared on the car's exterior. Small block engine displacement increased from 327-cid to 350-cid. Corvette won the GT-class at the Daytona Continental.
