Optional big block engine displacement increased to 454-cid. The small block remained 350-cid, but a new high performance RPO LT1 generated 370-hp. RPO ZR1 Special Purpose Engine Package combined the LT1 with heavy-duty components including the M22 transmission. Twenty-five were sold. An LS7 engine, essentially an LT1 version of the big block, was announced in order guides but not offered to retail customers. This was the last year for high compression engines in this era. The body shape was revised to include fender flares behind the wheels to reduce body damage from wheel-thrown debris. Because of Chevrolet General Manager John DeLorean's decision to extend 1969 production, 1970 model build didn't begin until January 1970. Overall model year sales fell to 17,316, the lowest since 1962. Corvette had GT-class wins at the 12-Hours of Sebring and at the Daytona Continental. Corvette also won SCCA's A-and B-production season championships.
