1974 Chevrolet Corvette
Contributed by Mike Antonick, Editor "Corvette Black Book"
This was the first Corvette with body-color bumpers both front and rear. These models were distinguished by the vertical split in their rear bumpers, a design feature unique to this year. As the last Corvette models without catalytic converters for emission control, these were the last to legally burn leaded fuel (except for export models). They were the last of the era with true dual exhausts. It was also the last year for availability of a "big block"" engine. 1974's big block was the LS4 with 454-cid and 270-hp. Corvette had GT-class wins in IMSA events at Daytona and Talladega, plus SCCA championships in A- and B-production. A total of 37,502 were sold, of which 5,474 were convertibles.
