1975 Chevrolet Corvette

Contributed by Mike Antonick, Editor "Corvette Black Book"

It was the first Corvette model with a one-piece rear bumper skin, catalytic converters, and a pointless (high energy ignition) distributor. At the time--due to pending federal legislation-- it was thought this would be the last model year for a convertible, but the convertible body style returned a decade later in 1986. From 1963 through 1975, convertibles were always the less expensive body style, but that ceased after 1975. When convertibles returned in 1986, they were priced at a premium. They still are. The 350-cid standard 1975 engine produced 165-hp, and the single optional L82 engine had 205-hp. John Greenwood won the SCCA's Trans-American Championship. Classic White was 1975's most popular exterior color with 8,007. Steel Blue, at 1,268, was 1975's rare color. Overall sales increased to 38,465, of which 4,629 were convertibles.
