Corvettes had a new look in 1980 thanks to new front and rear bumper caps with integrated spoilers. Federal law required that 1980 cars, Corvettes included, have speedometers with maximum readings of 85-mph. Gulp. The mid-engine GTP Corvette debuted on the IMSA circuit with a 1,200 horsepower V6 and speeds exceeding 200-mph. Double gulp. In an unusual turn of events related to California emission requirements, 1980 Corvette buyers in California got a 305-cid engine instead of a 350, and the 305-cid Corvette engine was mated exclusively to automatic transmissions. White exterior was the most popular with sales of 7,780, but Black was close behind with 7,250. Dark Green's 844 was the scarcest. Overall, sales declined to 40,614.
