Ride quality was improved by reducing spring rates for base and RPO Z51 models. Z51s had thicker stabilizers to compensate for the softer springs. New Bosch fuel injection featured tuned runners, a mass airflow sensor and individual injectors for each cylinder. Power increased from 205-hp to 230-hp with no fuel economy penalty.
Car and Driver magazine proclaimed the 1985 Corvette to be America's fastest production automobile, capable of 150-mph top speeds. In racing, Corvette won all six SCCA Showroom Stock endurance races and won the series championship. The Corvette GTP took the pole at Daytona with a new IMSA lap record. Although called Bright Red as in 1984, 1985's red was a new formulation. It was the dominant exterior color preference with sales of 10,424. Dark Bronze metallic was at the other extreme with just 1,030 built. Overall total production was 39,729.
