Convertible models returned in 1986. A yellow Corvette convertible paced the 1986 Indy 500 and all 1986 convertibles were designated to be replicas, but didn't have special paint or options. All convertibles sold this year included pace car decal packages for dealer or customer installation. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were standard. Aluminum heads were introduced during 1986. All convertibles had them; early coupes didn't.
All 1986 Corvettes had center, high-mount stoplamps. Production of 35,109 included 7,315 convertibles. Red was again the top exterior color at 9,466. Four coupes were painted Copper Metallic. Fifty cars were specially painted in Silver Beige over Black two-tone in honor of and for sale by the famous New Jersey Chevrolet dealer Malcolm Konner. Medium Blue Metallic sold just 128 units.
Corvette won all seven SCCA Showroom Stock endurance races. The Corvette GTP won seven IMSA poles and two races.
