A 40th Anniversary option (RPO Z25) had Ruby Red exterior and interior (leather), and special trim. Subtle changes to the base LT1 engine made it quieter and increased torque from 330 to 340 lb.ft. Cylinder head and valve train changes increased ZR-1's LT5 engine output from 375 to 405-hp.
Car and Driver magazine ranked the 1993 ZR-1 as fasted production automobile tested at 179-mph.
A new Passive Keyless Entry system, GM's first, included a special transmitter to lock and unlock doors by proximity. Base models had smaller front wheels (8.5x17") and tires (P255/45ZR17) and larger rear tires (P285/40ZR17).
Production total was 21,590, including 448 ZR-1s, and 5,692 convertibles. The Anniversary option's exclusive Ruby Red exterior paint was most popular with 6,749 models sold. Dark Red Metallic was the lowest seller at 325.
ZR-1s placed first and second in the Federation Internationale du Sport Automobile (FIA) GT Invitational class in the Sebring 12-hour race.
