Two special models were offered for this, the last of the Corvette's fourth-generation. A Collector Edition in Sebring Silver had ZR-1-style five-spoke wheels painted silver, perforated leather sport seats with "Collector Edition" embroidery and other special trim.

The Grand Sport model was Admiral Blue with white center stripe and red hash marks on the left front fender, plus perforated leather sport seats with "Grand Sport" embroidery. Grand Sport's five-spoke wheels were painted black. Grand Sports had LT4 engines with 330-hp.

The LT4 was optional with other models at $1,450, but in all applications it required a manual transmission. Standard LT1 engines were mated exclusively to automatic transmissions. Collector Editions and Grand Sports were available in both coupe and convertible body styles.

Production was 21,536, including 5,412 Collector Editions and 1,000 Grand Sports. The Collector Edition's 5,412 sales volume made it the year's best selling exterior paint scheme. Dark Purple Metallic was rarest at 320 units.

A Callaway Corvette driven by Almo Coppelli won the SCCA World Challenge Championship Sports Division S2-class championship.
