2002 Chevrolet Corvette

Contributed by Mike Antonick, Editor "Corvette Black Book"

The previous year's introduction of the Z06 model was a smashing success, more than doubling sales compared to 2000's hardtop, and 2002 changes concentrated on Z06s. Output of Z06's LS6 engine increased from 385 to 405-hp, torque from 385 to 400 lb-ft. The Z06's rear suspension was retuned with different shock absorber valving, brake disc material was upgraded, and wheel construction was changed from forged to cast spun for weight savings.

Head-up display, previously unavailable with Z06, became standard with this model. All 2002 models had floor mats and AM/FM stereo compact disc radios standard. Automatic transmission cooler cases were changed from stainless steel to aluminum. Black took over top spot for exterior color with 7,129. Speedway White, with sales of 1,763, was the lowest volume color. Overall total production was 35,767, divided 14,760 coupe, 12,710 convertible, and 8,297 Z06 hardtop.
