A Z06 model returned, this time based on the coupe body style. It included an aluminum frame, fixed magnesium-supported top panel, magnesium engine cradle, specific body panels and trim including carbon fiber front fenders and wheelhouses, and a new-generation small block V8 engine bored to 427 cubic inches. Output for this LS7 engine was 505-hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
For coupes and convertibles, a new 6-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters was optional. This unit permitted driver selection of two full automatic shifting modes, Drive and Sport, plus manual control in Sport mode by the paddles.
A new three-spoke steering wheel, slightly smaller in diameter, was standard with all models. XM satellite radio was included with RPO U2K. The XM antennas were hidden in the exterior rear view mirrors.
